An update on John Piper

John Piper's Surgery Scheduled

February 3, 2006

Thanks to everyone for praying for Noel and me as we pondered all the possibilities for treatment of prostate cancer. Here's what we have decided to do. The surgery will take place, Lord willing, on February 14 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in the Center for Prostate Cancer. The Surgeon will be Dr. Kenneth Koeneman and the procedure will be the newer Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy. Which means they take out the prostate without cutting you open (much), and do all the fine work with cameras and robot arms from a computer console. So you can see there is plenty of reason to pray for God's sovereign hand to be on man and machine.

The God of peace is keeping our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. We are content. God is our hope. The best surgeon can have a bad day. An average surgeon can have a really good day. In the end, God decides. We would not have it any other way. One good brother quoted John Newton to us: "Everything is needful that He sends; nothing can be needful that He withholds." Amen.If you're curious about the procedure check out the Fairview website.

We are deeply thankful for your prayers,

Pastor John and Noel
