Desperation Band - Counting On God Lyrics

We sang the following song at Crossroads Church in Cottage Grove, MN off and on for a few week earlier this year. This song is infectious. Hours after singing the song and the song was still resonating in my head. And if you haven't heard of them, Desperation Band is worth giving a listen to!

Counting on God

VERSE 1
I'm in a fight not physical
And I'm in a war
But not with this world
You are the light that's beautiful
And I want more
I want all that's Yours

PRE-CHORUS
Joy unspeakable that won't go away
And just enough strength
To live for today
So I never have to worry
What tomorrow will bring
'Cause my faith is on solid rock
I am counting on God

CHORUS
I am counting on
I am counting on God

BRIDGE
The miracle of Christ in me
Is the mystery that sets me free
I'm nothing like I used to be
Open up your eyes you'll see

DESPERATION IS THE UNITED EFFORTS OF THE STUDENT MINISTRIES AT NEW LIFE CHURCH. WE BELIEVE THAT THE LOCAL CHURCH IS GOD'S CHOSEN VEHICLE FOR CREATING CHANGE. CHANGE HAPPENS LOCALLY. IT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE ACT WHERE THEY ARE WITH WHAT THEY HAVE. CHANGE HAPPENS GRADUALLY. IT OCCURS WHEN PEOPLE DO A SERIES OF LITTLE THINGS WELL OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME.

DESPERATION IS ALL ABOUT STUDENTS BEING CHANGED BY THE PRESENCE OF GOD. AND CREATING CHANGE WHERE THEY ARE BY PLUGGING INTO THEIR LOCAL CHURCH AND STAYING FAITHFUL. THIS IS A GENERATION IN DESPERATE PURSUIT OF GOD: THIS IS A YOUTH MOVEMENT FOR LOCAL CHURCHES. TOGETHER, LETS MAKE OUR LIVES DEFINED BY FAITH AND FAITHFULNESS. AND WE CAN SPREAD SALVATION AROUND THE WORLD. COME ON. IT'S TIME.

Hey why not think of it this way, God loves you so much that you want to honour him. instead of honouring him so that he will honour you.

what do you mean by bore people to jesus?

Jesus and the Bible are not and do not have to be presented in boring non-relevant ways.

which are the boring and non relevant ways you are refering to?

There are many ways in which churches (and people) do a disservice to the greatest story ever told. Perhaps you've never experienced it, but in the half dozen or so towns I have lived in there were hundreds of churches who might as well have had zombies sharing the Word. Certainly the Word itself has power, but I think we can utilize everything God has given us to maximize its impact. That includes our creativity, and that includes telling the Message in ways that modern generations can understand. The message itself never changes at the core, but we can adjust how we present it. Otherwise we are a black and white TV with rabbit ears in a HD with satellite world.

Joshua,
Just step up and say what you want to say. I'm really not feeling this trying to lead me somewhere. Perhaps you grew up in a cave with one church and have no outside experience to know that there indeed are boring churches and people who are turning their backs on the Gospel because nobody bothered to make it relevant to their lives. I'm a Calvinist, so without a doubt I trust God to bring those He will bring. But I also see clearly in scripture God has given us a role in this process as well. So freak out over that.

Dude! why do you take this so aggressively and reply with aggression? you've been blabbering about how your church is doing the right thing and and how i may be some inexperienced Christian(a baseless assumption). i'm not freaking out over anything nor trying to condemn anything. If you have noticed, all i have posted the past few posts are just simple questions neither attacking you or your belief. Why not just answer those questions. I'm sure anybody willing to help someone or share their faith to someone who is ignorant will be willing to answer such simple questions. Would you please answer those questions so that i can know better about yourself and your faith, Pastor?

Joshua,
My concern is that you are following a pattern I've seen before - an anonymous person "asking" question only to eventually start an argument. I have a very public image, you can find out all about me on this site (among many). When I look into your profile, there is nothing there. So my concern is I don't want to spend a bunch of time with someone only looking to pick a fight. Perhaps that is not what you are after, and if that is indeed the case, I ask for your forgiveness.

I'll quote one of my favorite preachers on this subject, and then we can go forward from there:

"As a preacher, I think a lot about relevance. That is, why should anyone listen to what I have to say? Why should anybody care? Relevance is an ambiguous word. It could mean more than one thing. It might mean that a sermon is relevant if it feels to the listeners that it will make a significant difference in their lives. Or it might mean that a sermon is relevant if it will make a significant difference in their lives whether they feel it or not. That second kind of relevance is what guides my sermons. In other words, I want to say things that are really significant for your life whether you know they are or not. My way of doing that is to stay as close as I can to what God says is important in his word, not what we think is important apart God’s word."
